Hungary's International Relations

This unit contains photographs that record bilateral and multilateral diplomatic events where Hungary was a participant or was in any way involved. Visits of high-ranking politicans and kings wew extensively photographed, such as the Italian king Victor Emanuel III's visit to Hungary in 1937, when both professional and amateur photographers took pictures of the events. Governor Miklós Horthy and his wife's trip to Germany and their visit at the navy port at Kiel in 1938. was photographed by Hungarian and German news services both.

It is not by chance, that the greatest number of pictures were made of the politicians of those countries that were allied with or in a friendly relation with Hungary. However, along with photos of the visits of Italian foreign Minister Ciano, German foreign minister Ribbentrop, and General Keitel; great number of photos about relations with other countries originating from the archives of picture magazines are in the collection, too. After 1945 Hungary had a close relationship mostly with the Soviet Union and the other, so called popular democratic Socialist countries. From this field, the Hungarian News Agency's photos can be found in the collection.
