The Hungarian National Museum began a series of exhibitions in 1997 to introduce new acquisitions to the public each year. Now in 2010, we proudly present a collection of the most valuable pieces of the past decade.
The reason for initiating the series was that since 1997 Hungarian citizens could freely dispose 1 % of their annual income tax, for instance for cultural offerings. The Museum spends these donations to acquire new works of art.
Apart from displaying the new acquisitions, the exhibitions also present traditional sources of enrichment: excavation findings of the Museums' archeologists, donations, directed sponsorship, and Museum objects attained by collection or official conveyance.
Now in 2010, we proudly present a collection of the most valuable pieces of the past ten years. With this exhibition the Hungarian National Museum would like to express its gratitude towards those who actively participated in preservation of the national heritage and the enrichment of our national treasures through offerings, donations and helpful support.
